This ‘Sweet Assortment’ series was created by building up lots of layers and textures using paint and collage. This series evolved over time. Underneath lies loud brash colours but working over the top of them all I calmed down these paintings and brought them all together. The collage used in these pieces is both found and made. Old envelopes which I often like to collect and pieces I have created myself are embedded into the paintings. They soon reminded me of Liquorice Allsorts - a favourite of my Dads and as a treat going to the sweet shop and filling a small paper bag with a delicious mix of penny sweets!
